This is the best Estes Jul 22, 2007
By CATO Guy Yesterday was a sad day. A rocket eating tree took my Estes Big Daddy and would not give it back. This has always been one of my favorite rockets, which is why I am here ordering another one. This rocket flies well and is truly exciting to launch. As a second or third kit project, this is the one to get when you are ready to move up to something a little bigger. (I do NOT recommend the Executioner, Estes' other big rocket, as it is a little too much rocket for the recommended Estes engines, and tends to fly like a drunken pig. Of course, that is just my opinion, your mileage may vary.)
Now for a cool modification ... if you REALLY want to turn heads at the next club launch, get the Aerotech RMS 24/40 hobby line reloadable hardware. Then, load it with an E18-4. There are two changes you MUST make to the rocket for this to work well. First, add 20 grams of weight to the tip of the nose cone (epoxy and ball bearings work well). Second, you can't use the Estes paper wadding. Get yourself a Nomex flame protector or something similar. It is important to note that once you make these changes, you can NOT go back to Estes engines ... the rocket is now too heavy for them.
This is what I was flying when the tree got my Big Daddy. And I have to tell you, even the old hands at the launch were going 'What the %&!# was that" when it took off.

Great Beginner or Novice Rocket Jan 10, 2010
By cmegone This rocket is BIG and is very fun to fly! It would be a great 2nd rocket as you'll have to put it together but that is part of the fun, as it isnt that hard, me and my 5yo did it in about 1 hour and was out flying and loving it. It also does well on the cheaper D size motors, thats what we use most of the time. We already have about 10 flights on it and its still going strong so I dont believe you'll be disappointed in the Big Daddy.

The best rocket when you want to upgrade to mid power rocketry. Easy to build and fun to fly.

The house feels so empty without Big Daddy May 12, 2010

This was a super fun to build and paint rocket and my 2 and 4 year olds loved helping thought the process. After having been launching ABC engines for a while, the mighty flight of an E-engine on Big Daddy stood as a class of its own. The longer burn (3 seconds vs. less than 1 second) of the E-engine feels like an eternity as you watch this monster take off and continue to go. Overall a great spectacle, easy to build and super fun to fly.
Unfortunately in my case, my Big Daddy went off at about 45 degrees (you really need to use 1/4"x48" launch rod attached to a stable launch pad) and got lost; that is why I'm here planning "The return of the Big Daddy". The day it got lost my 4 year old dreamt that Big Daddy flew back home: I must make her dreams come true or what kind of Rocket Dad would I be.
This rocket ROCKS! Jun 13, 2011
By marnstein I've bought a lot of different rockets recently for my 11 year old son, and this one is the best. absolutely aweeeesome fun.
Get E engines and get ready to crap in your pants when it goes off! holy, crap it's awesome! This is my 3rd purchase of this rocket since they usually get eaten by trees...
get a can of red spray paint and the rocket will look like a nuclear missle!
