My Boys Really Love to Fly This Rocket Jul 04, 2008
By Mark C. Petzold And I do too. It is one of the more difficult models to build, due to the body shrouds and such, but with a little patience and skill, it can be done. It is fun to fly, since it is rather heavy, making for a slow lift-off, and a flight that is sufficiently high, but not out of sight. The big parachute makes for a nice recovery. Just make sure you launch it in near still conditions, since it will drift a bit.
My boys are proud of this rocket, and they enjoy learning about the real SR-71. They like to brag about the rocket as well, even though they didn't have a hand in building it.
Overall, this is a great looking rocket, and fun to fly.

Great Rocket Version Replica Of The Fastest Jet Jun 21, 2008
By Alan G. Young I built this rocket when I was a kid. I learned how to build rockets in the 5th grade. I recently purchased it and flew it a bunch of times, unfortunately, like many rockets, it got away with the C6-5 engine. I'm waiting for another one I recently ordered and I probably won't fly it. This is my second favorite Estes Rocket after my Orbital Transport. I wish someone would develop a model rocket based on the Valkyrie another cool jet from the past. If in NYC they have the real one purched on the deck of the USS Intrepid Museum on the West Side.

Nice kit overall Jan 04, 2010

This kit takes some skill. My son needed lots of help, but it does look impressive when complete. One thing I did was get some 5 min epoxy and really beef up the side engines to add some strength. Just waiting for spring to launch.

Great project rocket!! May 23, 2010
By Chris aka Gator This is a great model to build but I wouldn't recommend it for a younger person without some experienced adult help.Easy to follow instructions,I finished mine in 5 days at about 2-3 hrs a day.The person that left the 1 star rating saying that some parts are foam must be sniffing glue.Everything in my model was top notch materials as all Estes rockets are that I have purchased.Basic tools are required, carpenters glue, rubber cement, modelers knife, masking tape,400-600 grit sandpaper.I launch mine with C6-5 motors and it does great ,reaching about 500-550 feet.So if you want a little challenge and have a great looking rocket sitting on you launch pad this is a great choice!!Painted mine blue just to be different and have submit photos for the product page.
