 Great activity for your child and a stylish toy Dec 15, 2008

My 8 year old daughter wanted a model kit to put together. Given that I didn't want her messing with glue, scalpel blades, or paint for her first model kit, I figured that this would be a great introduction into putting a car together.
The die cast body, plastic base and rubber tires are true to scale and detail.
WHAT IS IN THE BOX?
Die cast metal body
Plastic wheels (gray and chrome)

Screwdriver
Component Parts (seats, engine, steering wheel, gear shift, mirrors)
Full color instructions
ASSEMBLY
The assembly is the educational aspect of the item. The nice thing is that you don't need glue! Parts just snap right in.
The packaging was frustration free with just a few strips of tape holding the various parts. The instructions are straightforward. My daughter was able to assemble this toy within 20 minutes (including opening the package).
CONSTRUCTION
The die-cast metal body allows the doors to open. The glossy finish is durable and easy to wipe down. Although my daughter intends on playing with this item, it is suitable for a collector to display in a case.
The wheels are interchangeable and the process is easy. The placement of the tires was the most challenging part for my daughter to assemble.
VERDICT
This is a fun activity for an entry into assembling model cars. The construction of the model is great for displaying or for an older child to play with.
However, given the small parts, caution should be taken if you have younger children (under 6) and pets).
Highly recommend.

The friend I gave this to, loves it and has it on his desk. He said it took all of 10 minutes to build during phone conferences, but was impressed with the detail.

This could have been a great product...if only they made a small effort at fit and finish. It's not complex or difficult to make, with few pieces and simple connections, yet Maisto fails badly. I eventually finished constructing it, with half the pieces unused because they wouldn't fit, in a sad replica of an expensive car. You would think Ferrari would be more careful about how they lent their reputation.
Building this offers a fine chance to introduce your children to new vocabulary, like "shoddy", "junky", "slipshod", and "second-rate".

Bought this as a stocking stuffer for my Ferrari crazed brother for Christmas. It arrived earlier than expected and the product was exactly as described. It looked like a perfect mini Ferrari and not just some dinky toy!
