3Decent enough gun for modding...  Aug 12, 2010 By frobert
While originally panicking to get a father's day gift, I remembered all the good old days when I would get him super soakers. Not the new ones that you have to pump to shoot, but the old, high-powered pressurized beasts that hit up to 50ft or more sometimes. So I decided to do what any loving engineer would do:

Buy a water gun and convert it to a flamethrower.

Yeah. So, this gun worked pretty well. It's really too small to be a rifle, too big to be a pistol. It doesn't hold much water, but since I was using 91% isopropyl as the fuel, that was probably for the best (would melt the O-ring faster if there was more isopropyl to get on it). It has okay range, 15ft to 20ft, except I obviously had to modify that so the stream of fuel would catch on fire. Now it gets 5ft, maybe 10ft of fire.

Effective and decent. If you don't want to blow money on the new super soakers, and do not want to deal with how quickly the super-cheap water guns break, this is the weapon for you. Also, do NOT try modding it at home. I refuse to be held responsible if you ignore how dangerous a plastic flamethrower is and try to make one yourself. Just don't do it.
